Opening night of the Ambleside Festival: first set 6.30pm.

The two founder members of the much loved group “The Impossible Gentlemen” have established a unique rapport through their love of music of all kinds from rock to classical, jazz and folk. These extraordinary improvisational talents explore a rich harmonic world that is highly accessible, emotionally engaging and often jaw-dropping. They met Hermine Deurloo at the Ambleside Days Festival and found an instant musical rapport. This is a new trio with much to explore.

Tim Garland saxophones, Gwilym Simcock piano and Asaf Sirkis drums

Many will recognise Grammy-award-winning saxophonist Tim Garland from his long tenure with Chick Corea, Gwilym Simcock from his many years with Pat Metheny and Asaf Sirkis as the drummer also with Soft Machine. Garland’s association with the prodigiously talented and much-praised Simcock goes back a long way. Both share a broadly similar musical approach that’s informed by a blend of fusion, folk, and classical forms, while the formidable Sirkis, a drummer and percussionist with a well-deserved reputation as one of the best in the business, seems at home in any environment, but here masterfully employs a bespoke kit of middle eastern frame drums which are perfect for the setting.
